  6. file to use with which Citizen printer, together
  7. with a brief indication of the DIP switch or
  8. control panel settings needed on the printer
  9. (don't select colour ribbon unless you have one
  10. fitted):

  47. To set the Citizen Swift 24E up, use the sequences
  48. described below for the Swift 24, with the
  49. exception that the Swift 24E has an extra category
  50. at the start of the menus (LANGUAGE) and so you
  51. will have to press JUMP twice rather than once to
  52. get to the MAC CTRL stage (ie. "MENU", "JUMP", 
  53. "JUMP", "MENU" to get to MAC CTRL DEFN MAC).
  54.  
  55. The "Citizen.Swift-24" printer definition file is
  56. somewhat unusual. It utilises the unique features
  57. of the Citizen Swift 24 to get the best results
  58. possible from this printer.
  59.  
  60. Text printing is all done by switching the printer
  61. to IBM Emulation Mode to allow the use of Code
  62. Page 850 (Multilingual) which gives a very good 
  63. mapping for the ISO Latin 1 character set.
  64. However, the printer does not support the escape
  65. sequence to switch code pages, so you must set the
  66. printer up to default to IBM emulation mode, code
  67. page 850 (multilingual). Additionally, you need to
  68. enable the colour upgrade if it is fitted. This is
  69. all done by using the printer control panel to
  70. redefine MACRO 1, which contains the default
  71. settings for the printer. This is detailed later.
  72.  
  73. Graphics printing is done by software switching
  74. the printer to Epson  Emulation Mode, except for
  75. the 360 DPI vertical resolution modes. For these,
  76. the NEC Emulation Mode is used as this is the only
  77. way to get the n/360 inch line spacing needed to
  78. perform the vertical interlacing. Note that colour
  79. printing should only be selected if you have
  80. installed the colour upgrade in your Citizen Swift
  81. 24 printer.
  82.  
  83. The "Paper Y offset:" for this printer is 10 mm,
  84. which is greater than the top margin of the "A4
  85. (Generic DP)" paper size. This may cause graphics
  86. output to appear slightly too far down the paper -
  87. see the "Printers.Read_Me" file section on paper
  88. offsets for more information. Also to get this
  89. offset requires the printer VTOP (top of form) to
  90. be set to -26 rather than the default of 0 using
  91. the control panel. This is detailed later after
  92. the main configuration information.

  94. Although !Printers allows you to print in colour
  95. at all supported resolutions, it should be
  96. realised that resolutions above 180 by 180 DPI are
  97. interlaced which results in 8 or 16 head passes
  98. over the same line and on the second or subsequent
  99. interlace passes, the light ribbon colours are
  100. printed over dark colours already on the paper.
  101. This can cause contamination of the lighter ribbon
  102. colour.
  103.  
  104. The steps to configure the Citizen Swift 24 if you
  105. do not have the colour upgrade fitted are given
  106. below. If at any stage you think you have made a
  107. mistake, switch the printer off and start the
  108. sequence again.
  109.  
  110.  Turn the printer on and place it in the OFF LINE
  111.  state (press the "ON LINE" button unless the
  112.  printer is already offline because it has no
  113.  paper in it).
  114.  
  115.  Hold down the "SELECT" button, keep it held down
  116.  and additionally hold down the "ON LINE" and the
  117.  "PARK/LOAD" buttons. Keep all three held down
  118.  until the LCD display shows a FACTORY INITIAL
  119.  message. Release all three buttons and wait for
  120.  the LCD display to show the OFF LINE message.
  121.  
  122.  Hold down the "SAVE" button, keep it held down
  123.  and additionally hold down the "ON LINE" button.
  124.  Keep both of them held down until the LCD display 
  125.  shows a BUFFER INITIAL message. Release both
  126.  buttons and wait for the LCD display to show the
  127.  OFF LINE message.

  129.  Press "MENU", "JUMP" and then "MENU" - the LCD
  130.  display should say MAC CTRL DEFN MAC.
  131.  
  132.  Press "SELECT" then "SAVE" - the LCD display
  133.  should say LOADED MACRO 1.

  135.  Press "MENU", "SELECT", "SELECT" again and "SAVE"
  136.  - the LCD display should say EMLATION IBM.

  138.  Press "JUMP" five times - the LCD display should
  139.  say CHR TBL CODE PG.

  141.  Press "SELECT", "SELECT" again and "SAVE" - the
  142.  LCD display should say CODE PG MULTI.

  144.  Press "SAVE" and "SAVE" again - the LCD display
  145.  should say SAVED MACRO 1.

  147.  Wait for the LCD display to say OFF LINE, and
  148.  then switch the printer off. The printer will now
  149.  configure itself correctly whenever you switch it
  150.  on.

  152. The steps to configure the Citizen Swift 24 if you
  153. do have the colour  upgrade fitted are given
  154. below. If at any stage you think you have made a
  155. mistake, switch the printer off and start the

  206. Having configured your printer in this manner, it
  207. will no longer work with Ace Computing's
  208. !PrinterJX printer driver. This is because the
  209. printer now defaults to IBM mode, whereas the Ace
  210. driver expects it to be in Epson mode when using
  211. the Epson LQ-360 compatible graphics resolutions.
  212. There are two ways around this. The first is to
  213. use the Citizen Swift 24 control panel to manually
  214. switch it to Epson emulation mode. The second is
  215. to modify the PrData file inside !PrinterJX to
  216. include the control sequence to switch to Epson
  217. emulation mode in the job_prologue. The control
  218. sequence required is <27>~5<0>. An example PrData
  219. file entry for !PrinterJX using this is given
  220. below:

  241. You now need to set the VTOP for the printer, such
  242. that auto paper feed of cut sheets feeds as little
  243. of the paper past the print head as possible.
  244. Switch the printer on, feed a sheet of paper into
  245. it, and put the printer ONLINE. Now hold down the
  246. LF/FF key for 1 second or more until the LCD
  247. display says OFF LINE VTOP 0. Hold down the LF/FF
  248. button. This will cause the paper to feed
  249. backwards and the 0 in the display will count
  250. down. On most printers it will stop at -26, when
  251. the LCD will say OFF LINE VTOP -26. This should
  252. correspond to a "Paper Y offset:" of 10 mm, which
  253. is what the Citizen.Swift-24 printer definition
  254. file is set up for. Some printers will let you set
  255. the VTOP further back by pressing LF/FF again and
  256. holding it down. If you do this you will need to
  257. use the "Printers.Top_Left" file in conjunction
  258. with !PrintEdit to change the "Paper Y offset:".
  259. Having set the VTOP to -26 (or some other number),
  260. press the SAVE button. The LCD display will say
  261. SAVE?, at which point you should press the SAVE
  262. button again to store the setting. Wait until the
  263. LCD display says ON LINE. The printer is now fully
  264. configured.
